Activities for and with the community

Activities for and with the community:

  • DANA Events (support to activities planned by the Delaware Area Neighborhood Assoc.)
  • Holy Spirit at the Farmers’ Market  (proceeds from the sale of food and crafts are fed back into the neighborhood;  
  • ENL (English as a New Language) Classes
  • Support of local Food Pantries (non-perishable food and monetary donations)
  • Bedding Bank  (new, unused items donated to those in need in coordination with USCRI Albany)
  • Albany Maritime Ministry (donations of personal items for seafarers whose ships are docked at the Port of Albany)
  • Friendship Garden (a city lot owned by Holy Spirit and operated by teachers of the Delaware Community School as a living lab for their students; benches for use by neighbors)
  • Donations to combat World Hunger (including participation in local CROP Walk)
  • DCS Events (support of activities in coordination with the Delaware Community School)
  • Facility Availability (for use by outside organizations in need of meeting or activity space)
  • Hot Soup Sundays (free hot meals available to the community after worship during cold weather months)
  • Support to the work of the wider church through (tithed) Benevolence offerings.
  • Mitten Tree (donation of knitted goods for those in need)
  • ALT of activities/projects with our “Albany Lutherans Together” partners: Good Shepherd, First Lutheran, and St. John’s
  • Peace Garden (an urban oasis in our green area with benches for neighbors’ quiet reflection)
  • Off-Street Parking for staff of the school
  • Donations to Lutheran Disaster Response  
  • Capital Area Council of Churches (support to activities such as meals for the Overflow Homeless Shelter)
  • Support to UAlbany Protestant Campus Ministry (donations and student sponsorship)
  • Street Soldiers (representation at Rensselaer site)
  • Donations to help support Donna in Ghana’s missionary ministry 

  • Clothing Bin (for used textile items) and Clynk Recycling Program (for empty plastic bottles) to support recycling and fundraising for community projects.
